I have a cat and I've had a dog before. Now I feel like fostering a dog would be the best way to help out some of the local shelters. My only concern is whether they would let me foster one. I am fortunate to have reasonable hours, 7am to 3pm, and have no obligations on the weekends. My husband doesn't care for dogs he doesn't know but will warm up to one, my daughter loves dogs and is willing to spend every waking moment with it, she's 14 and is a avid hiker, while my son dislikes dogs, but will get over himself. We have a large side, front, and backyard. The age of the dog would be an older adult. The only thing I'm concerned about is how long the dog will be alone. Do you think they would allow me to foster a dog?

You never know till you ask! And I'm sure they will, volunteering is much appreciated!

If your son and husband dont like dogs it might cause problems having one there and animals can sense when someone doesn't like them, he might end up really stressed out and when you are gone your daughter will be the only one that will want to take care of it so what if she gets tired of it? They might ask these type of questions at the shelter so you might want to talk to the whole family about it first and come up with and agreement together.

talk with your shelter, different ones have different requirements and it all depends on why the dog needs to be in foster care. if the dog is sick and needs round the clock care the shelter probably won't ask you to foster it. but if they need space and the dog is a healthy average dog then sure! why not. however you will have to keep the dog and cat separate during the foster period.
