First off, you need to think long and hard about what it is you want to do, if there is actually a sustainable market for it in your area, if you are good at what you intend to do, what the possibilities are if you succeed or if you fail and a contingency if you should fail after all. You will need to get some business cards made and some fliers, talk to people who know quite a bit about your area of business, you will need to become licensed and bonded, research what tax forms you will need, have a financial plan to abide by, be willing to accept failure and learn how to work past discouragement and most importantly you will need to do your job well and give yourself constant reality checks. If you can't stay focused and sharp-minded in your business strategies... you will not make it past 5 years. Some things you have to have certifications for and you need to do research on your area of expertise to see whether you do or not. Degree's aren't required to start businesses, but a sound mind and wisdom are invaluable assets. Do your homework and stay motivated!
