US is playing along with a highly treacherous, corrupt and un reliable Pakistan army for only one reason which is the land route to Afghanistan.
Now factor in the cost of bribing the Pak army on a continuous basis.
Also now according to new developments the local tribes simply loot the oil tankers for monetary gain on top of other hostile reasons.
Pak army is never going to stop all these because basicly it just can not nor does it have the will to do so.
An alternate route will end up costing the same if inded not safer and cheaper.

The US leaving other countries alone would solve this problem instantly

The best choice for the US would be to get out of there and stop giving it money.
